Isaac Hayes initially became involved with the movie Shaft in hopes of being cast in the title role, but instead he was offered the role as the movie’s composer.

Hayes spent two months working between tour dates on the score at the MGM studio. He recorded the rhythm tracks with Stax band The Bar-Kays in one day, orchestral part the next day and vocals on day three. (Wikipedia)

However, the album shown here is a cover of Isaac Hayes composition, recorded by Soul Mann & The Brothers, real name Sy Mann. Mann was an orchestral leader and arranger at CBS in the late 60’s/early 70’s.

It was quite common in the early 70s to do a budget version of a popular soundtrack and release it thru labels like Pickwick.

The song “More More More” was originally recorded in 1975 in Jamaica where True had been appearing in a TV commercial. Unable to return to the United States due to a government ban on asset transfers, she opted to invest the money in a studio recording to advance her career as a singer. True called on disco producer Gregg Diamond to record it with her and other studio musicians, which formed the backbone of the “Connection” project.

Andrea True disappeared from the music industry, but had a renewed burst of publicity in 1999 when a band sampled this song.

Ohio Players were most popular in the 1970s with funk hits such as “Fire”, “Love Rollercoaster” and this one “Funky Worm”.
It is said that the early releases was a great inspiration for George Clinton in forming Funkadelic’s sound.
Apart from their music Ohio Players were famous for their erotic album covers that featured nude or nearly nude women. Some of the women were models featured in Playboy, but not Patricia Evans, the woman on this album. With her shaved head and unwavering attitude, Pat Evans was an icon of Black beauty. Known for being the first bald model, she appeared in fashion magazines, ad campaigns, and on a string of Ohio Players album covers like albums “Ecstasy”, “Pleasure”, “Pain”, “Climax” and “Orgasm”.
But back to the music: the song “Funky Worm” from the 1972 album “Pleasure” has been sampled a gazillion times by mainly hip hop artists.
